For GPs and Treating Specialists

Overstory Medical provides physician-led consultations for people in the post-treatment phase of curative-intent cancer care, integrating supportive care and evidence-based lifestyle medicine into ongoing recovery.

Many people reach the end of active treatment without a clear pathway for the questions that follow — persistent symptoms, uncertainty about recovery, or how to optimise the lifestyle and behavioural factors associated with reduced recurrence risk. Overstory Medical is designed to sit alongside your existing follow-up care, providing a structured, specialist-led consultation focused specifically on this phase.

Who This Service Is For

Consultations are appropriate for people who:

  • have completed curative-intent local treatment (surgery and/or radiotherapy, where applicable) and intravenous adjuvant/neoadjuvant chemotherapy

  • are generally between six weeks and five years post-treatment

  • may still be on adjuvant or maintenance therapy (endocrine therapy, CDK4/6 inhibitors, HER2-directed therapy, adjuvant immunotherapy, or long-term ADT)

  • are medically stable but experiencing persistent symptoms (e.g., treatment-related fatigue, sleep disturbance, menopausal symptoms, side effects of endocrine therapy, fear of recurrence, cognitive changes), or uncertainty about recovery

  • would benefit from structured guidance on lifestyle measures associated with recovery and secondary prevention

Who is this NOT for?

This service is not appropriate for people who:

  • are currently undergoing intravenous adjuvant/neoadjuvant chemotherapy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy

  • have not yet completed curative-intent local treatment

  • are within six weeks of completing treatment

  • have acute or uncontrolled treatment-related toxicity

  • require urgent assessment for possible recurrence or progression

  • have metastatic cancer or a haematological malignancy

  • are seeking a second opinion on their oncological diagnosis or treatment plan, which is best directed to a treating or independent medical oncologist

Fees and Medicare

Consultations are privately billed, with payment required in advance. A Medicare rebate may be available where a valid referral is held and the consultation is conducted via video. Rebates are processed after the appointment. Current fees and rebate information are provided directly to the patient at the time of booking.

Coordinated Care

Prior to their consultation, patients complete a detailed questionnaire covering treatment history, current symptoms, and priorities, allowing the consultation itself to focus on discussion and tailored advice.

Following the consultation, you will receive written correspondence outlining the issues discussed and recommendations made.

Decisions about investigations, surveillance, or changes to anti-cancer treatment remain with you and the treating oncology team. Overstory Medical's role is to complement, not replace, this care.
